Newport School of Innovation (NSOI) successfully hosted its Family Engagement Day, providing valuable opportunities for students and families to connect with staff and learn more about the programs and services offered. The event featured six sessions focused on Edgenuity, curriculum, and individualized learning plan addendums. Students took an active role in student-led conferences and individualized learning plan addendum reviews, giving them the opportunity to share their progress, reflect on their goals, and engage families in their educational journey. Participants also engaged in meaningful discussions about ways to improve the program and strengthen the support provided to students and their families. In partnership with Newport’s Services, Tools, and Empowerment Program (NSTEP), NSOI raffled gift baskets during each session, adding excitement and appreciation to the event.

‼️NPS Families‼️Nominations must be received by TOMORROW (Wednesday, 9/30) at 9:00 AM!
Voting will take place in the NPS Cafe during Family Engagement Day activities, on Friday, October 2.
🔎 WANTED: Parents/guardians who care about our school and want to be part of the solution!
As a parent representative on a school-based decision-making council (SBDM), you have a seat at the table, and the opportunity to help shape the future! Reach out to the Family Resource Youth Service Center (FRYSC) coordinator at your child's school for details.

Newport Schools qualifies for the Community Eligibility Provision (CPE) Program. What this means is that all students regardless of income receive free school breakfast and lunch. However, we still need to collect household income forms to qualify for other programs and services. Based on the free and reduced lunch percentage, Newport Schools qualify for Family Resource Youth Services Centers (FRYSCs). The funding that these centers receive relies directly on the completion of the household income form. Our school district also receives other grants, field trip opportunities, and programs as a result of our free and reduced lunch percentage and not our CPE status. In order to keep these opportunities for our students, we need your help. If you are a parent/guardian of a student within our school district and have not completed your household income form, please do so prior to September 30th. If you need a form, please contact your child's school. Only one form is needed per household. We are currently at a 91% completion rate and would appreciate your support to reach our goal of 100%.

October 2 is Family Engagement Day at Newport Independent Schools!
Family Engagement Day is an opportunity for families and educators to spend meaningful time together talking about each student, celebrating strengths, discussing progress and needs, and working together on next steps.
As part of the day, each school will offer a morning and afternoon session for the Annual Title I Family Engagement Meeting.
During the Title I meeting, families will have the opportunity to:
• Learn about Title I programs and parent rights
• Learn how Title I funds support students
• Review the Parent & Family Engagement Policy
• Review and discuss the Title I Family/School Compact
• Share ideas and feedback to help improve our schools
Families can choose the session that works best for them.
Newport Primary School
9:30 AM & 1:00 PM
Newport Intermediate School
9:00 AM & 1:00 PM
Newport High School
10:00 AM & 1:30 PM
Can't attend one of the Title I sessions? You can still review the documents and provide feedback by scanning the QR code on the flyer.
Your voice matters! Families who complete the feedback survey on October 2 will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card, with one winner selected at each school.
We look forward to connecting with you!

Tonight's board meeting (Wednesday, August 26, 2026) is unable to be live-streamed due to issues from today's district-wide internet outage. Restoring full internet and telephone service to the schools and district offices took precedence over finalizing some audio and video upgrades to the board room.
We apologize for any inconvenience and will return with an improved streaming experience for the next scheduled meeting.
Thank you.

The beginning of the school year often brings a lot of paperwork for families, but few documents are more misunderstood than the Free and Reduced Lunch form, often known today as the Household Income Form. As a school and district, these forms are not just about lunch; they are a direct tool for advocating for the resources students need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The accurate completion of this form by every family, regardless of their perceived income status, is essential to secure the following critical supports:
1. CPE / Free Meals for All Students
What it does: Allows entire schools to serve breakfast and lunch to every student at no cost. Newport Independent School District is part of this program.
How it helps: High form completion rates prove our school’s need so we can keep providing free meals for everyone year after year.
2. Title I Funding (Extra Academic Help)
What it does: Brings federal funding directly to our school.
How it helps: Pays for intervention staff, math and reading materials, learning tools, and teacher training that benefits all students.
3. FRYSC (Family Resource Youth Services Centers)
What it does: Funds our school’s resource center staff, programs, and supplies.
How it helps: Helps students overcome non-academic barriers by providing supplies, clothing, programming, etc.
4. 21st Century Grants (After-School & Summer Programs)
What it does: Wins competitive grants for free student activities outside regular school hours.
How it helps: Pays for after-school educational support/tutoring, STEM programs, after-school clubs, and summer programming at our schools.
Bonus Impact: Due to our overall free and reduced lunch percentage, our schools often qualify for specific local grants that fund in-school assemblies, field trips, and specialized services from community agencies.
