This is a DISTRICT-WIDE event open to ALL Newport families and students of every grade level.
We’ll have creative craft stations, STEM building challenges, painting, board games, bingo, and more – designed for kids from preschool through high school.
🎟 Spots are limited to 30 families (one spot per family), and reservations are required.
💙 We are also looking for volunteers!

Since their establishment, FRYSCs have become a cornerstone of Kentucky’s education system, grounded in the belief that when families are supported, students thrive. Here at Newport Independent School District, we are incredibly fortunate to have three coordinators who go above and beyond every day: Ms. Molly, Ms. Blackwell, and Ms. Watts. This week, February 2nd–6th, we proudly celebrate National School Counselors Week. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible school counselors for the vital role each of you play in supporting our students’ academic success and their social and emotional well-being. Through your guidance, compassion, and unwavering dedication, you help students navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and reach their full potential. Your encouragement, care, and commitment leave a lasting impact on our schools and our community. The Newport Independent School Community is deeply grateful for all that you do: every day, for every student.
Having previously been delayed to this upcoming weekend, the final four teams will vie for the title this Sunday at the Owensboro Sportscenter in Owensboro, Kentucky. Our semifinal game will be played at 1:30 pm our time, 12:30 pm CST. If we advance past the Lyons again, we will play in the championship game that same day at 5:30 pm our time, 4:30 pm CST. Let's get as many of us down to Owensboro as we can and cheer on our boys as they work to earn another title!

Ticket reservations are now open and available for our Winter Play, It’s A Wonderful Life.
The show will be presented at our NHS auditorium at 900 East Sixth Street.
Show times are Thursday, December 11, and Friday, December 12, at 7 PM, and Sunday, December 14, for a 2 PM matinee.
Tickets will be $5 for adults and $2 for students and children. We will be accepting cash only for this show . Also please be aware that seating in the auditorium is limited. We will assign specific seating upon request.
Therefore, to reserve your seats, please call (859) 292-2800 or email nhsdrama@newport.kyschools.us and clearly leave your name, a phone number where you can be reached, the show you wish to attend, and the number of seats that you will require.
Limited handicap seating is also available. Please keep in mind we will be able to reserve tickets for the number requested and we will do our best to ensure that ticket requests are seated together. During the visit, students learned about the technical craft of cutting hair, from mastering tools to developing a signature style. The barbers also explained how saving money and managing finances are essential parts of running or working in a shop. Students gained insight into building a loyal clientele and the importance of good communication and customer service.
The barbers discussed the schooling, training, and licensing required to enter the field, offering practical advice for anyone considering the trade.
The experience was motivating and gave students a realistic and inspiring look at career opportunities in barbering.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Newport School of Innovation welcomed two veterans who shared their experiences and insights with students. Mr. Paul Kunkel represented the United States Marine Corps, while Mr. Barry Shields represented the United States Army. They spoke about the values of service, responsibility, and teamwork that are integral to military life. The veterans provided students with a glimpse into their experiences in the Marines and the Army, answering questions about duty, sacrifice, and leadership.
Both veterans emphasized the importance of making wise choices, both in school and in life, to build a strong foundation for the future. Their visit served as a reminder of the courage, integrity, and dedication displayed by those who serve our country.
