Under Kentucky state law, all children must be enrolled in and attend school between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age. A child who is 5 by August 1st of the current year or who turns 6 by October 1st must enroll in school. Guardians of children aged 5 after August 1st may petition for Early Entrance to school. Registration for enrollment may be initiated online, at any school within the district, or at the Welcome Center - Student Services Office.
Proof of Residency- Residency must be established in order to enroll at Newport Independent. Proof may include utility bills of the guardians with the street address, rental/lease/purchase contracts, or other documents verifying address. An Affidavit of Residence is required for any guardian whose name does not appear on an official document to verify address.
Kentucky Immunization Certificate Current - Student’s immunization records are available from their health care provider or from the Health Department
Official Birth Certificate or other reliable proof of age and identification. Please contact the school of choice FRC or the Student Service Office should you need assistance in obtaining reliable proof of age and identification.
Medical Examination-
Preschool and Kindergarten: All children enrolling in preschool or kindergarten must have a physical examination performed within one year prior to their admission. This examination must be recorded on the Kentucky medical examination form and may be obtained from any Newport Independent School office
Middle School: All children enrolling in 6th grade must have a physical examination within one year prior to entry into 6th grade. This examination must be recorded on the Kentucky medical examination form.
Transcript, report card, and/or other academic records from prior school(s)
Dental Screening Form – due Jan 1st of the school year for ages 5 and 6
Eye Examination Form – due Jan 1st of the first school year that a child ages 3-6 is enrolled
Custody Orders as it relates to the Student if applicable
Temporary Placement Paperwork- for students receiving additional services in a former district.
The above requirements are not to serve as barriers to immediate enrollment of students designated as homeless or foster children as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the McKinney-Vento Act as amended by ESSA. The District shall work with the local child welfare agency, the school last attended, or other relevant agencies to obtain necessary enrollment documentation. Enrollment will not be delayed regardless of immigration status. Should your student lack fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, please let your enrollment staff assistant know.

The registration will be processed once the following documents have been brought to school:
