A significant obstacle for student’s academic growth at times is the unmet need for social and emotional development that may require specialized services. Our children's mental health is especially vulnerable during this time of virtual and hybrid learning. Newport Independent Schools offer three different layers for overall student social and emotional development in addition to the learning in the classroom setting.
First, each school is staffed with a School Counselor. This professional provides services throughout the school including small group and one on one services. The School Counselor acts as the liaison between families and more in depth layers of services and is available to students daily.
Newport Independent Schools have also partnered with outside agencies to provide additional services. External counseling services are a parent/guardian choice and families interested in counseling services may contact their child’s school counselor to learn more.
We are excited to now offer an additional link between the home, school, and community as Newport Independent offers district mental health clinicians. Given the unexpected demands on our students, many are feeling anxious, fearful, worried, overwhelmed, and sad.
If you feel that your child could benefit from services or if you would like to learn more, please contact your child’s School Counselor.
