Status Update

After further review of our district status, we have decided to remain in all virtual instruction until after the winter break.  We feel this is the safest and best course of action for us at this time.  The plan is to continue all virtual instruction until Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Notice of Intent to Apply

healthCommunities throughout America have a commitment to education along with their local schools.  The Newport community and the Newport School District share that bond of commitment as well.  However, the current Covid-19 pandemic presents us with some difficult challenges.  Maintaining safety and wellness is an equally high priority.  As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, the Newport School Based Health Clinic will remain open to assist families by providing free healthcare for Newport students.  Some of our many services include sick child visits, physical exams, and immunizations.  The Health Clinic is located at the Newport Intermediate School and is open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8am-3pm.  Please call 291-1910 to schedule a visit; masks and social distancing protocols are in place.

We want to offer not only our gratitude, but also kudos, to the parents and guardians of our Newport School students.  The Newport school nurses, and administration have assumed a limited role in assisting with contact tracing and notifications, augmenting the efforts of the Northern Kentucky Health Department.  We have found our parents and guardians to be essential.  Our school community parents, and guardians have been receptive and helpful participants in these efforts toward public health.  Your continued notifications concerning ill students and thoughtful discussions with us will be appreciated as well.

NEWPORT – Newport Intermediate School Special Education Teacher Kristen Edwards has been named WARM 98 radio's Teacher of the Week.

Edwards, who was nominated for the award by the parent of one of her students, began to cry as she learned about the award during a phone call from WARM 98s morning show hosts Jim Day and Amanda Orlando. A video of the call posted on the station's Facebook page has been viewed nearly 5,000 times.

Changes will be based on the capacity of the individual classrooms to maintain social distancing, the needs of the school, the needs of the students, and the needs of the family. Any changes made will be communicated by the individual school and would take effect on October 26th. Change requests will be taken for second semester learning updates. The change request forms will open on December 1st and will close on December 11th.
