Her dedication to the City of Newport is reflected in her countless volunteer hours with organizations such as the City of Newport Ambassador Program, the Citizen's Newport City Police Academy, the Girls Scouts and Camp Sunshine. She is also an active member and volunteer at the Melbourne United Church. Sylvia was awarded the Martin Luther King Keeper of the Dream Award in 2005.
Sylvia is very excited to be the newest member of the Newport School Board and believes that communication, cooperation and respect are the key to a successful partnership between the board and educators. She believes there is nothing more significant than improving the quality of the life for our children through education. By promoting peace, celebrating diversity and advancing educational opportunities, we can ensure a prosperous generation.
