Units of Study:
Prime Time - In this unit students will study whole numbers. Prime Time addresses the basics of number theory: factors, prime and composite numbers, even and odd numbers, square numbers, greatest common factors, and least common multiples. By the end of this unit, students should be able to use these terms with meaning. As they work through the unit, students can refer back to the Mathematical Highlights page to review what they have learned and to preview what is to come.
Bits & Pieces I - The goal of this unit is to help students make sense of fractions, decimals, and percents and to see the relationship among the three. Students will use fraction strips, percent bars, and number lines to compare and order fractions, decimals, and percents.
Data About Us - In this unit students will explore ways of collecting, organizing, displaying, and analyzing data. They will represent distributions of data using line plots, bar graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, and coordinate graphs. Students will compute measures of center (mean, median, mode, range) to analyze and compare data.
