Become a Reading Mentor to a Newport Student

Are you interested in being a one-to-one reading mentor for a Newport student?  If so, you can register at https://www.nkyec.com/one-to-one-reading/training-information.   Mentors work with an individual student (weekly) throughout the school year, during the school day, and in the student’s building.

Health Requirements for Students

We are excited about the coming school year. Please remember that Kentucky law requires:

  • All students need to have an up-to date-physical exam and KY immunization certificate on file at school.
  • The law requires all students entering 6th grade to have an updated physical and immunization certificate on file at school.
  • In addition, the law requires pre-school and kindergarten students to have a vision exam on file no later than January 1st of the school year. Kindergarteners must also have a dental exam on file by January 1st of the school year.

Before beginning 6th grade, students are required to have a new physical exam and 6th-grade immunizations. The immunizations include Tdap, meningococcal, and a second varicella vaccine. If your child plans to participate in sports, a sport physical is also required.
