School Supplies

For the fourth year in a row, Newport Independent will cover all school supplies!  With the help from various organizations and Crayons 2 Computers; we want to reduce the financial stress on our students and families!  If you would like to donate some supplies, please contact your child's school or the Service Center at 292-3001.

Newport Youth Wildcats Receive Helmets From Competition

The Newport Wildcats are a newer addition to the Northern Kentucky Youth Football League, and when more than 50 6, 7, and 8-year old boys showed up to play, the team had a problem.  There weren't enough helmets.  That changed on Thursday evening at Newport Stadium when four Newport Police officers showed up.  Click here to read this story as written for the River City News.

Home Visits and Back to School Bash

Wednesday, August 10, 2016, is when the Newport Teachers and Staff will be making their Home Visits to students.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the parents and children to meet their teacher.  Later in the day, there will be another opportunity at the Back to School Bash, which will be held at the Newport High School football field.  Teachers and Staff will be there to greet and meet students and parents.  The Wildcat Hustle Fun Run is a new event at the bash - Click here for more information about the run and how you can participate.  The Back to School Bash event has been very well received in past years!  Please join us!

BackPack Giveaway

Backpacks & Breakfast
August 13, 2016   

9:00-11:00 A.M. 

Goebel Park, Covington (corner of Fifth and Philadelphia streets)

• Open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade from Kenton, Campbell and Boone counties. 850 backpacks stuffed with new school supplies distributed on a first-come, first-served basis

• To receive backpacks, families must provide photo I.D., proof of residence (a recent bill) and children’s proof of identity (Social Security or medical card) 

• Free Health Screenings

• Breakfast provided by Frisch’s

• Presented by Northern Kentucky Harvest in  partnership with Be Concerned, Brighton Center and Henry Hosea House Echo Soup Kitchen

Intermediate School Is Moving

Newport Intermediate School is currently being re-located to 95 West 9th Street.  This will be a summer-long project and will be completed by August 1, 2016.
