  • Breakfast provided by Frisch’s.
  • Presented by Northern Kentucky Harvest in partnership with Be Concerned and Brighton Center.

National Night Out Date is Set

National Night OutOn behalf of the Newport Police Department, you are invited to attend the 2017 Newport National Night Out, held in the Target parking lot on Tuesday, August 1st from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Come out to see home and neighborhood demonstrations put on by police and firefighters, and enjoy complimentary Back to School kids haircuts, school supplies, back packs, and refreshments. Girls on the Run is a nationally successful character development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run will have their final celebration, May 3, 2017 in room 215 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

Newport Intermediate students will participate in annual K-PREP (Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress) testing beginning May 10th - May16th, 2017. We would like to remind our students and parents how important it is for each child to get plenty of rest and a nutrious breakfast prior to testing.  Our cafeterias offer free breakfast to all students every school day!

NIS Youth Leadership Development (YLD) is a year long club that will provide many opportunities to learn new things, gain leadership skills, become involved in their community through service projects, and attend fun field trips. YLD is held at the Brighton Center across from NIS in the YLD room. Students will walk to the center after school at 3:00 PM. Students may attend Monday/Wednesday or both days.

NIS Student Technology Leadership Program

NIS STLPStudent Technology Leadership Program (STLP) uses project-based learning principles to empower student learning and achievement through the utilization (and creation) of technology to solve school and community needs. NIS Family Night

NIS Family Fun NightJanuary 25, 2018 will be NIS Family Night

All students and their families are invited to attend our Family Game Night on Thursday, January 25th from 5-7pm. Dinner will be served at 5pm, and then we will transition to an evening of fun-filled activities as our parents and caregivers engage in fun games with their children!

Please note that all students must have an adult chaperon present with them to attend.

There will be several  prize give-a-ways for those in attendance; so you don’t want to miss this awesome opportunity for fun with your students!

NIS - Veterans Day 2017

NIS celebrates Veterans Day by recognizing NIS staff member, Lieutenant Colonel, Ed Cook, Behavior Intervention. Lieutenant Colonel Cook joined  the military in December, 1988 and is in his 29th Year serving in the United States Military and is currently in the Main Command Post – Operational Detachment, 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault, Ft. Campbell.

Lieutenant Colonel Cook will be deploying in February, 2018 with the 101st Airborne to the Middle East.


NIS STLP Qualifies for State Competition

Assistant Principal, Bob Seiter, and STLP Coordinator, Jennifer Davis, celebrate success with NIS STLP students. The Newport Intermediate School STLP Team presented their project called, Maker Space Specialists, on November 20th at Northern Kentucky University. These hard-working students scored high enough to qualify for the state competition in March.

Newport Intermediate School has adopted a new dress code for our students.The revisions to the dress code were made after receiving feedback from teachers, administrators, students and parents. The changes are meant to still give students some flexibility with their attire while maintaining a safe and productive learning environment within our school.

Students learn to pose subjects with composition and use triangles. They learn real world job skills setting up studio lighting, backgrounds and customer service. Shutterbug Photography Club meets Tuesdays from 3:30 - 5:00 pm.

Inclement Weather - Wind Chill


 During the winter months several factors come into play that could delay the start of the school day or cause school to be closed altogether.  One such factor is the wind chill on a given day.  On particularly cold mornings we continuously monitor the National Weather Service and closely monitor the weather conditions.  There are two possible scenarios that come from the National Weather Service; a Wind Chill Advisory and a Wind Chill Warning.  The National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH defines the two as the following:

 Wind Chill Advisory:  Wind chills between -10 and -24 degrees and at least a wind of 10 MPH or more
 Wind Chill Warning:  Wind chills -25 degrees and below with at least a wind of 10 MPH or more

 When the National Weather Service issues a Wind Chill Warning for Campbell County before the school day begins we will make a decision to close schools.  It is quite likely we will make this type of decision on the morning of the day in question as it is hard to predict what the wind chill will be the night before.  If there is a Wind Chill Advisory for the county, schools will likely be open unless there are operational problems with the bus fleet or mechanical problems in the school buildings.  Buildings and the bus fleet are assessed in the morning prior to school by 6:00 AM.

NIS Jump rope for heart

Jump Rope For Heart empowers students to improve their health and help other children with heart-health issues, all through jumping rope. NIS students learned jumping techniques and about heart awareness. Through our students efforts, they raised $2,000 for the American Heart Association.
