Gear Up to Host Family Campus Day to the University of Kentucky. Gear Up

GEAR UP Family Campus Days bring families as a unit (defined as parents/guardians/mentors/other significant adults along with their student) onto college campuses to receive information about the college planning process in general and the specifics of each university’s program offerings and campus life.

GEAR UP Family Campus Days also educate the adults in our students’ lives about what GEAR UP is and facilitates connections to GUK staff. At minimum, each campus day seeks to provide families the opportunity to connect with admissions, financial aid, housing, academic departments, student life, student retention services, and parent associations.

The Family Campus Day to UK will be held on Saturday, April 29th. Transportation and lunch will be provided. See the Gear Up office (or email for more info.

Each year, Gear Up proudly sponsors a Summer Academy for our students. This is a three-week residential summer enrichment program on a university campus, where students have a daily schedule of classes taught by college professors and experience life as a college student by staying in a campus dorm, eating in campus dining halls, and interacting with college staff and students. The goal of the program is to help students develop the skills needed for college & career success and create the opportunity to visualize themselves as a future college student. In addition to academic content, students will explore different career and college options, learn how to apply for college & financial aid, and get insight into life on a college campus. As you can see, this is a very exciting opportunity for our students!  Please encourage our students to apply. If you would like more information on the Summer Academy, please visit
